Sonata for Three Percussion Instruments, Op. 1

for three percussion instruments

(1992)

This is the first piece I ever wrote, composed around April 1992 when I was 12. It was scribbled in purple marker in a 5-stave spiral bound notebook. I was pretty serious about this piece as well as composing and soon more music followed including an overture, an "American Rhapsody" and a "Concerto No. 1 for Strings, Bassoon and Percussion in C Major, Op. 3." 17 more pieces for increasingly larger forces were written throughout the year culminating in a new Opus 1, Silva Anima (December 1992) - scored for a rather large orchestra. By this point, I had taken up the cello and began to study composition and piano with my mentor-tormentor, Livingston Gearhart in May of 1993.
