les étoiles secrètes was written for percussionist Andy Miller in the summer and autumn of 2011. The music follows in the vein of earlier pieces of mine (such as the Music for Sundays series) which sought to sustain a flat, transparent and stark surface, much like a combination of medieval two-dimensionality and depression-era American Magic Realist painting (in particular John Rogers Cox and Grant Wood).
